| A few helpful things to know before you go: Entry requirements: A passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure is required for U.S. citizens. No visa is required for stays of up to 90 days. No inoculations are necessary when arriving in Italy from the United States. Currency: The euro is the currency of the European Union, which includes Italy. The euro comes in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 & 500 euro notes and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 & 50 cent coins. You'll get the best rate of exchange by using ATMs, called Bancomats in Italy. Make sure your PIN is a four-digit numeric code. Forms of payment: Credit cards are widely accepted throughout Italy. We do not recommend bringing travelers checks in U.S. dollars. Electricity: The voltage in Italy is 220; outlets require a plug with two round prongs. Appliances will require an adaptor and voltage converter; we recommend you leave small appliances such as blow dryers and curling irons at home (all our hotels have hair dryers). Packing: Pack light! Most airlines have reduced their baggage allowance to 50 pounds per bag and you may be charged for a bag that is over the weight limit. Weather: We recommend checking www.weather.com prior to departure for a current weather report. |
